CHARLOTTE — Mecklenburg County Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Board swore in two new board directors, Marcus Kimbrough and Beverly Thorpe, and Board Chair Monifa Drayton, the first Black woman to hold this position in Board history, at its meeting on April 18, all of whom joined the organization to continue their community involvement efforts.

“We are honored to bring on community leaders like Marcus and Beverly while promoting Monifa to Board Chair to continue bettering our organization and the community. It’s truly a symbol of hope and progress for the organization and diverse vendors,” said Keva Walton, CEO of the Mecklenburg County ABC Board. “We are also grateful for former Board Chair Earl Leake and former Board Director Carl Daniel and their impact during their time.”

Board Chair Monifa Drayton, an award-winning leader and public speaker, joined the organization in 2018 as a director helping to guide the organization to reach unprecedented successes and deeper involvement in community engagement. For more than 20 years, she served in multiple leadership positions within the healthcare industry including operations and business development. Currently, she is the CEO of Drayton Leadership Group, LLC, specializing in leadership development, equity and inclusion.
