Last fiscal year (July 1, 2006-June 30, 2007), The Family Center received funding from the Board to provide the first FAST (Families And Schools Together) Program in Spanish. The program was held at Montclaire Elementary School. Twelve families participated in an 8 week program with their child(ren) to improve resilliency skills in the children, communication between parent and child, and prevent experimentation with alcohol and other drugs. This year, The Family Center will be serving three CMS elementary schools with the FAST program (First Ward, Devonshire, and Sterling).
This nationally supported program has been delivered by The Family Center in English and was the first organization in North Carolina to pilot the program in Spanish.
